Blue Strawberry Coffee Company

Hello! My name is Wesley Bryant, owner of The Blue Strawberry Coffee Company. Established in 2003, The Blue Strawberry is located in Cedar Rapids. I have a passion for roasting great coffee and am
excited to share it with Central Iowans.

I grew up in a small town in Arkansas where I came from a family of entrepreneurs. As I grew up, I knew I wanted to follow my roots and own my own business. I love roasting my own beans because I am able to control the quality in the coffee beans. I also enjoy the feedback from my customers about the flavor, blend, and roast. In my free time I enjoy spending it with my wife and son.

Boomer Rub

Lifelong friends from Napier, IA, Boomer and Thad spent years experimenting and testing to create a BBQ rub that is uniquely balanced for your smoker. This process has created a spice blend that combines smokey sweetness with a slightly spicy finish with less salt than is typical in most rubs.

Boomer rub is great on beef brisket, pork butt, all types of ribs and smoked chicken. Use it as an amazing dry rub toasted on wings as they come out of the fryer or sprinkled on a smoked pork chop.

For larger cuts like brisket and pork butt, sprinkle on a thick coat 12 to 24 hours before cooking, and a touch-up dusting right before the meat hits the smoker. For pork ribs and thinner cuts, 6 hours of dry rub is our favorite method. Boomer Rub is made for “Low and Slow” cooking. Rub early and cook slowly.

Brockmann Timbers

Bill told Bobbi early on, “we’ll never be rich babe, but we’ll be happy.”  Our jobs give us the flexibility to do what we love on the weekends – develop this timber ground with its endless opportunity for projects that our family can achieve together. One of those projects each later winter/early spring is maple syrup season. Bobbi and Bill, along with their two sons Max and Hank are proud to bring you quality maple syrup from their timber along the Mississippi River.

The Dress Schopp - Dot Dot Smile

My name is Angela Schopp, so naturally I had to use my last name, too perfect!

I’m over the moon to be able to share the love of DotDotSmile brand with you.  I started this uplifting adventure in May 2020 when I found myself needing to change my mental perspective during these times. I was losing myself and needed something for ME, while bringing smiles, joy and happiness to other mommas and their littles!  The connections and relationships I have made so far have been exactly what my soul needed!

My mission is to share the twirl and confidence boosting experience with your children.  DotDotSmile’s mission statement is: We Create Smiles and Build Confidence.  DotDotSmile dresses are stylish, comfortable, yet durable for every day REAL kid life!

My girls weren’t dress wearers and I was a sceptic, but I took a gamble and purchased a few dresses. The amazement on the girls’ faces after the first twirls were priceless! They haven’t stopped wearing them since. Our goal with this journey is to help spread the same joy and confidence to your kids! Kim Harms

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on January 20, 2016; one month to the day after my 40th birthday. I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and a five month reconstruction process and was forced to make crazy decisions about my body that should be reserved for Twilight Zone episodes.

I’m currently on a 10-year prescription of Tamoxifen which used to produce hot flashes that brought laughter to my house. One time when I had my head in the freezer (I once saw Claire Huxtable do this for relief on The Cosby Show), my then 14-year-old son Owen said very matter-of-factly, “It’s better than cancer.” The boy speaks truth.

I’m currently under contract with Familius Publishing House for my first book, Life Reconstructed: Navigating the Word of  Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction. It will be released October 12, 2021.

I write on a variety of topics, but I love connecting with women going through the bizarre journey of breast reconstruction that affects so much more than the physical body. And if you read much of what I write, you will quickly find that I also love Jesus and being a boy mom.

I am a freelance writer, speaker and editor with a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in
English: Literary Studies.

I live in Huxley, Iowa with my husband of 21 years, Corey, and our ever-growing man-children.  You can find me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/kimkharms  and on Instagram at
@kimharmslifereconstructed.

Oak Lane Candle Co.

Oak Lane Candle Co. is a candle and gift shop located in the heart of Ames, Iowa: Main Street. We use all-natural soy wax (harvested right here in the Midwest), phthalate-free fragrances and a lead-free, cotton wick so you can be sure your burn is clean and natural for you and your home. Soy wax burns cleaner and longer than regular candles and is produced by American farmers. We use phthalate-free fragrance in all of our candles and a lead-free wick.

In 2014 my husband and I started an adoption process of (what would be) adopting our son and daughter from Uganda. After spending a year of saving, doing different fundraisers, and countless grants, we still had money left to raise. I felt a soft nudge to try something that had been on my mind through all of this—making candles. I researched and tested, pouring batches in my basement, until I felt confident in the candle I had made, which, at that time, was a little mason jar candle. I uploaded four scents to my Etsy page and was immediately blown away at how fast people responded. Within hours, I was overwhelmed with the amount of orders and how I would keep up. Eventually I poured, delivered, and shipped all the orders, and in all of that, found a true love for creating.

These candles helped us raise the money to finish our adoption process and in March of 2017, we brought our son and daughter home. Although I did not anticipate to continue candle making, after many requests, I continued. We’ve expanded our products and our labels have changed, but we still believe in giving back to adoptions and supporting Uganda.

Pasta of the Prairie

Pasta of the Prairie makes homemade pasta, locally here in Iowa and crafted with love! We pride ourselves in creating a variety of unique flavored pastas.

Tyler and Lindsey Steinkamp started creating pasta out of a love of good food and trying new things. After taking a trip to Italy where we learned how to make pasta by hand, we were excited to bring new flavors and ideas back home with us to Iowa.

We first started selling our homemade pasta at a small farmer’s market. We’ve since expanded to create pasta salad mixes, soup mixes, and pasta meal kits – all with our own pasta.

We currently live in Marion, Iowa, with our daughter, Claire, and you can find our products at many local events and several locally owned stores.

Pawsitively Spoiled Co.

10 years ago Linda Baranosky did her first craft showing selling handmade dog collars and bandanas. With much success, her business continued to grow and she eventually became a permanent vendor at the Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market. Over the years new items have been added to Pawsitively Spoiled Co.’s offerings including dog coats, kennel pads, leashes and toys.

Linda didn’t want to have all the fun on her own, so three years ago her granddaughter Macy and her husband Shane joined the business. Macy and Shane manage the sales/shows, while Linda oversees all the manufacturing of the inventory. With Linda’s touch, all the inventory is homemade with love, so you can be confident that your little (or big!) pup is getting the best products around.

Pickle Creek Herbs

Hello! I’m Jocelyn, the Pickle Creek Girl. I like to think of myself as a Farmerteur, or Farmer-Entrepreneur. About 15 years ago, my husband Tim and I gave up our Chicagoland chemistry jobs to do the crazy and near impossible: Thrive on a 100-acre family farm.

Today we are the proud owners of Pickle Creek Herbs in Southeast Iowa. We grow herbs, berries, tomatoes, and garlic that we then use to create herb-infused olive oils and vinegars, soaps, salves, deodorants, and lip balms. We take the process from seed to store and make everything ourselves using original recipes perfected over the years.

Our widely known mission is to show how amazing herbs can be when they’re grown by passionate farmers who love their plants, their soil, and their community. We also have another, lesser-known mission, which is to demonstrate how a small sustainable farm can thrive in today’s industrialized world.

Everything we create is built on respect for our customers, our community, and our land. Through this paradigm and through an uncompromising commitment to making the best possible products with our herbs, we hope to enrich the lives of everyone around us. In the end, we are no more than what we have given to others. A passion for life, the creation of truly special products enjoyed by others, and a reverent care for the land that sustains us: Above all, that’s what we hope to give.

Pop It Like Its Hot

Hi! My name is Kim, Popcorn Queen of Pop it Like it’s Hot. I live in a small town just north of Ames. When I’m not working full time, I love to stay busy, enjoy walking outdoors…and make popcorn! I started popping popcorn as a hobby and something to do in my spare time. I soon realized how much I enjoyed learning the different recipes and how I could improve them. Being a grandmother, my grandchildren enjoy not only eating popcorn, but helping me make it too which makes it more fun! Quality time spent together, one kernel at a time.

Claim to fame: I’ve made popcorn for the Governor’s Mansion Christmas Open House.

Thanks for popping by!

Sauce Slingers

Sauce Slingers was born from the legendary Battles BBQ. The recipe traveled with George Battle from Texas and unintentionally settled in Iowa as the backbone of his longtime restaurant. As George passed, so did his business. Chad Watkins had the good fortune to purchase the restaurant as well as the sauce recipe.

Chad had another stroke of luck and married his long time friend, Mara Spooner. Separately, they have long histories of service to the Ames, Iowa community. Together, they believe that this is the next vehicle for them to change the world: hand-crafting beautiful sauces with high quality ingredients…with a hopeful eye towards collaborations with other local producers in Central Iowa, continuing to build a strong community.

Simply Sarah Nicole

Simply Sarah Nicole actually began back when I was seven years old. Well, sort of. I’ve always had a passion for creativity and from an early age I have been looking for ways to express it. Throughout the years it has changed as I’ve explored many creative outlets. From making bracelets/necklaces for my family, to designing and sewing outfits for my American Girl Dolls, to blogging, and photography, I’ve had my hand in a fair share of hobbies!

Fast forward to the spring of 2020 and I was out of a job, my summer internship before senior year of college was cancelled due to Covid-19 and I had very little money to my name. I was going through a pretty rough patch mentally and emotionally. After learning how to make clay earrings from a friend, I decided to try it out for myself as a way to pass the seemingly copious amount of time I all of a sudden had on my hands. So, I purchased a few blocks of clay and some simple cutters from Hobby Lobby and started playing around with what I was able to make. I sold to some family and friends over the summer through social media and felt like this hobby actually had a little bit of momentum behind it. After returning to Iowa State in the fall for my senior year, I started selling at the Ames Mainstreet Farmers’ Market every Saturday for the fall season. I was absolutely blown away by the amount of people that were interested in my product. After a shockingly great farmers’ market season I decided I wanted to continue to grow my little business and began reaching out to stores.

Fast forward to now and I feel so incredibly blessed to be running this business full-time and it has been so amazing to see God’s provision in the midst of it all. In 2021 I was able to work with 15+ new stores, be a weekly vendor at the Ames Farmers’ Market, participate in a few larger markets, and create so many amazing connections with people. Learning what all goes into running a small business has had some pretty low points where the learning curve felt more like a mountain but with each day I am learning to face the challenges and to trust in God’s timing. Overall I’m so thankful for this business and I absolutely couldn’t do it without all of the support of customers and the small business owners who have invested in my own small business so thank you to every one who has supported me along the way!

Stitch off the Ol' Block

The “crochet-craft whisperer.” That’s what some like to call me; among other names like Cindy, Cindo and “hairdresser extraordinaire.”

Born and raised in the small town of Kamrar, Iowa, I love my Hamilton County roots and have dyed a few in my day, too. Retiring from owning a salon in Jewell and doing hair for 30+ years, my day job went from perms and chit chatting with the ladies, to crafting, quilting, stitching and crocheting. Let’s just say I’ve cut more things than Edward Scissorhands! From afghans to ornaments, I can create anything that requires yarn, fabric and a vision. My proudest accomplishment has been raising three amazing daughters with my husband, David. Yes, they’ve given me some gray hair (that I quit dying), but they’ve also brought us joy, laughter, three sons in laws and eight fantastic grandchildren. On top of that, four grand pups who I spoil with treats and grandma love.

If you wonder where I am when I’m not in my creative element, you’ll find me thrifting or what I like to call “junking.” That, or on the farm enjoying retirement just outside of my childhood hometown, good ol’ Kamrar (or Kamer’ by locals), which is also known for Pickles, the best pizza place in Hamilton County! Take a country road trip and give it a try sometime. My advice to the younger generation: never forget your roots. On top and at home!

Vallee Creations

Hi! My name is Marie-Josée Lavallée but my friends call me MJ. I am so happy to bring my creations to you. Originally from Canada, I’ve been living in Ames for the past 8 years. The Vallée creations is a play on my last name, but it was also the natural evolution of passion: sewing.

I was taught to sew by my aunt when I was 8 years old and even though I didn’t pick it up as a hobby before I was in college, the skills she taught me never went away. After I graduated from college, I started sewing costumes for myself and my friends, I even joined a group of other superhero cosplayers that did appearances at charity events and at children’s hospitals. Donning my Supergirl suit and seeing those children’s reactions is the best feeling.

In 2019, my nephew was born and that’s when I shifted from sewing for myself, to sewing for him. He has been my very first product tester and from clothes to toys, the reviews from him have been very good. I decided to bring my passion to the public in 2022.

Vaughn Farms Beef was established in October of 2019 by Jerilyn Hergenreder and Jalane Vaughn and is located just north of Maxwell, Iowa. As farmers and beef lovers, Jerilyn and Jalane are excited to continue to share their home-grown, quality beef with your family.

Family is the center of their business and what keeps them striving to produce the best product for you and your family. Select from a variety of beef products including beef sticks, summer sausage, jerky, steaks and ground beef.

At Vaughn Farms Beef our goal is to provide a healthy, nutritious, locally grown product to our consumers. We take pride in raising our livestock in a safe humane way. Our cattle are pasture raised and grain finished to ensure that tender, great beef taste that everyone is looking for!

Vine'yl Anthems

Hi! My name is Brandie Ubben and I own Vine’yl Anthems, a small wine company with a twist of edge and glam-rock style. Being a fan of rock and roll, concerts and wine, I decided to bottle these passions into a rockin’ wine brand. I launched my business in the summer of 2020. Eight local grocery stores and two restaurant establishments carry Vine’yl Anthems, and my goal is to expand in and around the area. In addition, with wine comes sippin’ swag and fun accessories. Cue The Local Supply Co.! Here, you can find branded shirts, coasters, fun lyrical sayings and gift items that cater to all things wine. Most importantly, I believe music brings joy and should be celebrated, so pour a glass and fill your cup!

Wild Bird Farm

Hi! I’m Tara and the owner of Wild Bird Farm. My family and I live on a flower farm on a three acre piece of land between Sheldahl and Madrid. Throughout the year, we offer seasonal goods from our farm, and we are excited to be partnering with The Local Supply Co. to bring you locally grown blooms!

We start each plant from seed and harvest just before delivery so you receive the freshest flowers possible.  Our offerings vary as the seasons change, so there are always new flowers to enjoy!
